Get Out of Your Rut

Somewhere in high school, I picked up the tidbit that creative people don't take the same route all the time. Because I thought of myself as a creative person, I decided I should vary the way I went to and from school. Yeah, there's something wrong in my thinking there, but regardless, there's value in looking at different things. Or looking at things differently.

The human mind is prone to stereotyping and categorizing what we take in. Making connections with what we know, think, and feel already helps us keep mental order.

But looking at things with fresh eyes--whether it's because we're coming at things with a different angle or seeing a building or situation or person you literally haven't seen in a while--can give us a breath of creativity and impetus to write a piece worth reading.
